First edition, with dust jacket, of possibly the most famous American play of the 20th century.The press run was small, and fine copies such as this one are scarce. Despite the vast success he achieved with this work, Williams never abandoned New Directions for an “uptown” commercial firm. To this day they are the sole publishers of Williams’s works. Octavo (237 x 158mm). Paper-covered boards (edges lightly rubbed), pink dust jacket that repeats the Alvin Lustig design printed on the covers (light fading, a couple of short closed tears); modern clam shell box.
