Treatise on miniature painting, handsomely bound in modern green morocco.Third edition. Originally published 1674, Boutet’s work has sometimes been erroneously attributed to the printer, Christophe Ballard, as the dedication is simply signed “C.B.” Cioranescu 16030 (1674 second ed.).

Octavo (159 x 94mm). One woodcut illustration in text (occasional spotting and toning, a few dampstains). 20th-century green morocco, gilt spine, large depiction of an 18th-century lady in gilt on front cover, back cover decorated in diaper form with a circle, a star or a heart in each compartment (lightly rubbed). Provenance: William A. Foyle (Beeleigh Abbey bookplate; his sale, Christie’s King Street, 11 July 2000, lot 272).
