Neil Armstrong attends a space exploration seminar. In 1972, a three-day conference was convened at Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois to discuss the future of lunar exploration, bringing together leading academics from across a range of scientific disciplines working in the field, and with a convocation address delivered by Neil Armstrong. Professor Harry Nelson, of the Department of Mathematics and head of the Augustana planetarium, was instrumental in the planning and implementation of this conference.

2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing.
