[Albert Einstein (1879-1955)]

Portrait photograph by Hermann Landshoff, [Princeton], c.1950.

Gelatin silver print, 272 x 239mm, with Landshoff’s copyright stamp on the verso, marking this a sample copy. Mounted (500 x 405mm).

A rare image showing Einstein at work in his study in Princeton. One of the first by-lines that Hermann Landshoff (1905-1986) received as a young photojournalist in 1930 was for a piece of reportage on Albert Einstein that appeared in the nchner Illustrierte Zeitung – twenty years later, the two émigrés would be reunited in person in America, with Landshoff producing a series of portraits of Einstein in his study at Princeton.
