Albert Einstein (18791-1955).

Typed letter signed ('A. Einstein') to [Otto Juliusburger], 112 Mercer Street, Princeton, 3 November 1941.

In German, half page, 159 x 214mm, blindstamped address. Provenance: Stargardt, 4 July 2000, lot 521 (part of lot).

Einstein has an engagement in New York on the evening of 13 November, and hopes to visit Juliusburger at his apartment on that or the next day.

Otto Juliusburger (1867-1952) was a distinguished psychiatrist and expert on Spinoza and Schopenhauer: he had been a close friend of Einstein's in Berlin since the years of the First World War, and remained there until his remarkably delayed emigration in the summer of 1941. This was to be one of their earliest meetings since Einstein's own enforced exile from Germany in 1933.
