Albert Einstein (1879-1955).

Typed statement signed ('Albert Einstein'), n.p., n.d. [October 1921?].

In English, two lines on one page, 190 x 203mm.

'I hope that British Jews will support me generously in my endeavours to found a University at Jerusalem'.

Einstein was a leading figure in promoting the establishment of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which was to be founded in 1925: his first tour to the United States, in April 1921, was chiefly aimed at supporting the endeavour, and it seems likely that the present statement dates from his visit to Britain in October of the same year. Einstein was to leave his own archive, and the rights to his work, to the Hebrew University at his death.
