In 1968 Eugene Trefethen and his wife, Catherine, founded Trefethen after they purchased six small farms and Eshcol Winery, which had been built in 1996. In 1973, the Trefethen’s son and his new bride, Janet, produced their first wine and before long, Trefethen was a globally recognized name in the wine world after their Chardonnay was crowned “Best Chardonnay in the World” at the 1979 Wine Olypmics in Paris.
