Lot Essay

The Pagoda model was made in 1997 to commemorate the inauguration of Patek Philippe's new watchmaking center in Geneva. Inspired by a 1940’s model so called “Tour Eiffel”, the present watch is celebrated for its unusual case design, an arched rectangular shape with angular flared lugs and concave sides. Amongst graciously combining beauty and function, the Pagoda is a very rare model that can never be made again as the original tools created for its manufacture have been destroyed.

Reference 5500 was produced in a limited edition of 1100 examples in 18k yellow gold, 500 in 18k pink gold, 250 in 18k white gold and only 150 in platinum.
