Lot Essay

GB used this bat during the 1970-1971 tour of Australia and New Zealand. He played 22 innings on the tour scoring 1535 runs at an average of 93.8 with six centuries. If injury hadn’t scuppered his chances of playing in the final Test, he would almost certainly have broken Wally Hammond’s record for a touring batsman in Australia. The first ever One Day International was also played during this tour at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. GB scored 8 and John Edrich 82 as England posted 190 from their 40 overs. This was comfortably chased down by the Australians who won by 5 wickets with 42 balls remaining.

Signatures on the bat include Boycott, Edrich, Knott, Cowdrey, D’Oliveira, Illingworth, Underwood, Stackpole, I. Chappell, Marsh.
