Lot Essay

This stump is from GB’s first England Test Match as captain in consequence of Mike Brearley's broken arm. He captained the team for four matches though, as he points out in his Autobiography (p. 204), this was at the disadvantage of not having any part in the team selection. The result was ‘two draws, one defeat, one victory’.
