Lot Essay

This bat is from GB's final Test series as an England player. In the first innings of the third Test, he scored 105, Tavare 149 and Botham 66. A deft four took him past Sobers' record tally of 8,032 Test runs. He returned home after the fourth Test, the leading run scorer in Test matches with 8,114 runs and remained top scorer until surpassed by Sunil Gavaskar in 1983.
