Lot Essay

GB made 77 and 23 at Perth in 1978 and was more than ably supported by David Gower's 102 in the first innings. Rodney Hogg took 10 wickets for Australia in the match but it wasn't enough to prevent a 166-run England victory.

The First Test between England and Australia in Brisbane in 1965 saw the debut of a young K.D. Walters, who was dubbed by the national press as the next Bradman. Walters made 155 and would go on to play 74 Tests wearing the baggy green, averaging 48 and scoring 15 centuries.

The first Ashes Test in 1979 was held at Perth and was the scene of Boycott's famous 99 not out when he was run out at the non-striker's end. This was the first time that this situation had happened in a Test Match. Australia won by 138 runs.
