In 1979 Salvador Dalí was commissioned by the Krug family to design the first annual Krug Award of Excellence. The award was conceived to promote excellence in all fields of human endeavor. This work, number thirteen of the edition, was awarded to Dr. D. A. G. Galton for his fundamental work with chemotherapy on cancer. The work has remained in his family since.
