Special edition of Hockney's Alphabet signed by the artist and editor. The book was published to support the Aids Crisis Trust and raise money for those suffering from AIDS. It was edited by Spender, and contains written contributions by himself, Joyce Carol Oates, Iris Murdoch, Paul Theroux, Gore Vidal, Norman Mailer, Seamus Heaney, Martin Amis, Erica Jong, Ian McEwan, Nigel Nicolson, Margaret Drabble, Craig Raine, William Boyd, V.S. Pritchett, Doris Lessing, William Golding, T.S. Eliot, Arthur Miller, Ted Hughes, Kazuo Ishiguro, Julian Barnes, John Updike, Susan Sontag, Anthony Burgess, Douglas Adams and Patrick Leigh Fermor. Each contribution is paired with an illustration by Hockney.

Folio (321 x 243mm). 26 colour lithographic plates by David Hockney. Original yellow buckram (insignificant faint mark to upper right-hand corner on front cover) contained in the original grey cloth slipcase. Provenance: preliminary leaf signed by David Hockney and Stephen Spender.
