Lot Essay

John Bellany was a close friend of Lord Snowdon with whom he served on the council of the Royal College of Art. Lord Snowdon photographed John in 1990 (see NPG P1852) with a prop of a fish, in reference to Bellany's interest in Scottish fishing communities.
