Lot Essay

‘A great photographer and teacher, Arthur Mitchell gave Harlem, the kind of culture the rest of New York takes for granted" - Snowdon

"Arthur Mitchell started the dance theatre of Harlem in the basement of a disused church and in the process created much more than a ballet school Having made his name as a dancer. unlike most people who come out of Harlem and made a success, he went back there. He rescued teenagers off the streets and gave them a chance to do something worthwhile - from painting sets to making scenery and dancing" (Snowdon quoted in, A Life in View, New York, 2014, p. 220).

Iman (b. 1955) is a Somali fashion model and actress. A former muse of both Gianni Versace and Yves Saint Laurent, she married David Bowie in 1992.
