Tom Parr was a close friend of Lord Snowdon and one of the pre-eminent post-war interior decorators who honed the English country house style. Originally a business partner of David Hicks, he eventually joined the eponymous firm of Colefax and Fowler, where he eventually served as Chairman.
The scene by Galliari relates closely to a drawing of a stage design for 'A Garden of Clipped Arches' now in the Morgan Library and Museum, New York (see 1982.75:268:2) and further drawings now in the Victoria and Albert Museum (see E.5291-1960).
