Publisher's presentation copy to H.R.H. The Princess Margaret from a close admirer, Mark Bonham Carter. The son of the author, Violet, Mark Bonham Carter (1922-1994) was a prominent member of the Collins publishing firm. During the Second World War, Mark was held as a prisoner of war in Tunisia, before escaping and walking 400 miles to the safety of the British lines. Afterwards, he was stationed at Windsor Castle, where he became close to Princess Margaret. Loosely inserted in the present lot is a letter from Mark to Princess Margaret presenting his mother's book to her.

Octavo (228 x 140mm). Illustrations. Publisher's cloth (rubbed), dustjacket (spine faded, a few marginal creases). Provenance: Mark Bonham Carter (presentation inscription on front free endpaper and autograph letter loosely inserted, dated 9 April 1965, to:) – H.R.H. The Princess Margaret.
