Lot Essay

A related painted enamel teapot and stand is discussed and illustrated by David S. Howard in A Tale of Three Cities, Canton, Shanghai and Hong Kong, Three Centuries of Sino-British Trade in the Decorative Arts, Sotheby's, 1997, p.157, no. 202. The author notes that these pieces drew inspiration from English silver originals.
