Details
The twenty-seven paintings of various comical subjects including frogs travelling on a steam train constructed of lotus roots and leaves; a frog teaching a lesson to pupils; Shoki watching a sumo match between oni; other paintings featuring the Seven Lucky Gods (Shichifukujin), including Ebisu as an artist, startled by the fish he has painted which has sprung to life; and Jurojin having a haircut; and various comical scenes of everyday people, each painting, ink and colour on paper, and mounted as an album with brocade covers, the paintings variously signed and sealed, signatures include: Seisei Kyosai, Kyosai; seals include: Sei, Gaki, Kyosai, Seisei
Each 8 x 11½ in. (20 x 29 cm.)
