"In the early 1960s, Reddy devoted a series of works to water, a continuation of his enduring interest in evolving forms in nature. As a part of this exploration of fluidity - which included ":River "(1960) and "Whirlpool" (1963), among others - this print conveys the immense energy of a crashing wave. The textural effects of its surface derive not only from how Reddy incised his plate but also from how he inked it. While working with Stanley William Hayter at Atelier 17 in Paris, Reddy helped to develop a technique of printing multiple colors simultaneously, known as the viscosity method" (Human/Nature: Selections from the Department of Drawings and Prints, Metropolitan Museum of Art website, accessed January 2026).
