Tête-à-Tête was chosen by the influential German art critic Julius Meier-Graefe (1867-1935) for the first published collection of prints by Edvard Munch, know as the Meier-Graefe portfolio, printed by Angerer in Berlin and issued in 1895. The other etchings and drypoints included some of the most important early prints by the artist: The Girl at the Window (Woll 5); The Sick Child (W. 7; see lot 261); The Day after (W. 10); Two Human Beings - The Lonely Ones (W. 13; see lot 262); Kristiania Bohemians I (W. 15; see lot 266); Moonlight - Night in Saint-Cloud (W. 17); and Dr Max Asch (W. 25).
