Lot Essay

This gown was designed and fitted specifically for Alexandra Shulman to wear to the AngloMania-themed Met Gala in 2006, which examined aspects of English culture that continue to capture the imaginations of Europeans and Americans alike. Shulman said, "I was delighted to wear something by such an inventive and brilliant British designer - the godmother of so much contemporary Brit style."

"I am no longer Editor in Chief of British Vogue so I have fewer occasions when I can wear gala gowns. It's fantastic to think that this one will benefit other women. I have been a supporter of Smart Works for some time and love the way that it acknowledges that how we dress can affect how we feel when it comes to preparing for the workplace." - Alexandra Shulman
