Lot Essay

The sunglasses were designed by Betty Jackson as part of her 1990 Spring/Summer collection and are from the wardrobe of Patsy Stone, played by Joanna Lumley, in the hit BBC series Absolutely Fabulous. Jackson designed many of the outrageous and wonderful costumes worn by both Patsy and Edina Monsoon, played by Jennifer Saunders.
The lipstick was custom made for Betty Jackson by the celebrity make-up artist Barbara Daly, who has worked with icons and royals, including Princess Diana on her wedding day; pioneered looks on the covers of British Vogue; and with film directors such as the late Stanley Kubrick, with whom she created memorable visuals on the silver screen in Clockwork Orange, The Shining and Barry Lyndon. Daly has been creating Jackson's bespoke lipstick since the early 1990s and this particular lipstick featured as Jackson's Luxury Item on BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs.

"It was hugely exciting to be involved in Absolutely Fabulous from the beginning - and even more exciting to dress Joanna Lumley as Patsy! She was a dream to dress, looked marvellous in everything - including all the accessories - and we had such fun during the filming of the series." - Betty Jackson
