Lot Essay

Unlike other variations of Shore’s gas station and street scenes like those observed in La Brea Avenue and Beverly Boulevard, Los Angeles, June 21, 1975 and in Okeechobee Boulevard, West Palm Beach, Florida, October 27, 1973, the present lotdepicts oncoming traffic and reveals the humanity behind the wheel. However, the people suspended in acceleration lack identities, the rear-view mirrors of their cars acting as censor bars covering their faces and stripping them of autonomy from their vehicles.
