Lot Essay

Okeechobee Boulevard, West Palm Beach, Florida, October 27, 1973 presents a ubiquitous gas station with the distant illusiveness of a desert oasis. Far-off palm trees appear sporadically among the gas station pumps, imbuing the left half of the image with a tropical flair that feels out of place against the concrete expanse. This petroleum wellspring is deemed nameless by the framework of the image; the station is an autonomous place, a representation of a concept not a brand.
