Lot Essay

Yucatán, Mexico is a product of a later period in Shore’s career that is characterized by international travel. Shore has referred to himself in terms of being a sort of anthropologist, and his glimpses of the transforming culture of the Yucatán emblemize this conceit with elegant curiosity. The neat, purposeful repetition of the stacked oranges evokes the very serial essence of photography, each with their slight variances in color and composition.
