Lot Essay

A fried chicken restaurant and a movie theater playing 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid' certainly would not be out of place in an American setting, however a small Canadian flag, whipped by the wind, serves as a distinct reminder that Shore has wandered over the Northern border to capture Broad Street, Regina, Saskatchewan, August 17, 1974. While Shore’s passive anthropology led him beyond national confines, his transcontinental impulse is still very much rooted in the American mythology of the open road. While Shore did not stray far, this early foray hints at the extensive international travel that would come to dominate much of his later practice.
