Lot Essay

Chan Tin Boo, born in 1950 in Chenghai, Chaozhou, Guangdong, moved to Hong Kong and was the general manager of Hong Kong Tsi Ku Chai. In his early years, he studied oil painting, watercolor and silk-screen printmaking, and studied commercial design and modern ink painting courses. Beginning in the 1970s, he followed Chui Tze Hung to study painting and attended ink painting courses under the tutelage of Wucius Wong, Szeto Keung, Jat See-yeu, Kan Tai Keung, Leung Kui-Ting and others.

Chan Tin Boo is good at landscape painting. While inheriting the tradition of literati painting, his works have borrowed and absorbed a large number of elements of Western painting, highlighting the light and shadow and the perspectives, producing beauty, and strong visual tension.
