The 'Tema e Variazioni' or 'Themes and Variations' design has been produced in at least three hundred and fifty variations. The present plates incorporate the image of a woman, identified by Fornasetti as Natalina 'Lina' Cavalieri, the fin-de-siècle opera singer.
