Lot Essay

Though much of Zuzek's inspiration came from the natural world of the Florida coast, when she ventured further inland she looked to the urban environment, creating patterns that included iron grillwork, wicker furniture, and weathervanes.

The reverse of this piece offers an insight into the printmaking process. The brown channel screen has been exposed onto the back of the paper, creating a shadow version of the image on the front. The areas that we see in brown on the recto appear white on the verso, while the rest of the page had been darkened to a light tan. This phenomenon can also be observed on the reverse of lots 11 and 43.
