拍品专文

Umbrella stands are some of Fornasetti's favorite everyday objects along with trays as supports for his trompe-l'œil decorative designs. He designed two forms, one cylindrical and the other with a sheet of metal cut to shape and mounted as a shield like the present lot. The form itself, characteristic of the nineteenth century, serves as a discreet backdrop that highlights the trompe-l'œil decoration, through which the artist’s aesthetic philosophy is most vividly expressed.
