Lot Essay

Curtis Holder is an artist and illustrator. Originally from Leicester, he studied Graphic Design and Illustration at Kingston University before completing an MA in Character Animation at Central Saint Martins.
First and foremost a draughtsman, Curtis is rarely spotted without a pencil in hand sketching in lively detail the people and places he discovers every day. Driven by a passion to breathe animation into the lines he draws his portraits are truly unique, skilfully combining pencil drawings and watercolour with the thumping energy of the sewing machine. Every line, brushstroke, stitch and loose thread joyfully intertwine to create pictures which have an ever-changing sense of movement and magic.
Created especially for Terrence Higgins Trust, this collection celebrates three ‘Icons’ – Freddie Mercury, Sir Elton John and Elizabeth Taylor - all of whom have dedicated their support to the fight against HIV.
