The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas has been relined with a wax lining. The canvas is wavy. There are some minor frame abrasions visible along the edges. There is some soft surface dust and dirt in places. There are stable craquelures in places, most notably in the white passages. There are superficial accretions, paint losses and abrasions in places. In natural light there is a discoloured cosmetic retouching visible right next to the face of the figure. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals the aforementioned retouching, in addition to some spots that fluoresce in a manner which may have to do with the wax used in the relining, predominantly in the upper left corner, the arms and hands of the figure and along the lower centre vertical edge.
