Trant lived in 'Pandemonium', his house in St Joseph's, when he was stationed in Trinidad with the Ist West India Regiment in 1827-28. A career soldier who served in the Cape in 1820, in Bengal in 1821, and in the First Anglo-Burmese War in 1824-26, Trant later served in the Ionian Isles and in Ireland. He is the author of Two Years in Ava (1827) and a Narrative of a Journey through Greece (1830).
