The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The larger casket:
Elements of the wood carcass possibly replaced.
With extensive losses overall, consistent with age and use.
The green silk associated and the metal decoration possibly associated.
The metal to the front of the dome with losses and degraded overall.
The back third lacking silk, now covered in canvas.
Extensive historic, and apparently inactive woodworm, to the construction, particularly to the feet, which has resulted in associated losses.
The baseboard inscribed '20'.
The interior lined with later canvas and studded letter ribbons. Some staining to the canvas and torn along the hinge.
The smaller casket:
With tears and losses to the leather.
The leather to back half of the dome and reverse of the body lacking polychrome decoration.
