The chatelaine on a gilt-metal hook, formed as multiple gold chains of pearls and blue enamel plaques set with diamonds centered by a braid of hair within a pearl frame, the lower portion with further chains suspending two pearl tassels, a citrine seal carved with a heart pierced with an arrow, and a winding key, the center suspending a watch on a clip, the back in blue enamel with radiating diamonds and pearl border, in an original gilt-tooled red leather case, signed James Shrapnell London on clockworks and numbered 1697

A comparable chatelaine with verge pocket watch enameled in claret color was sold in Frankfurt at Auktionen Dr Crott, 11 May 2013, lot 94, and is described in G.H. Baillie, Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World, vol. 1, Edinburgh/London, 1947, p. 291.
