In two sizes, oval with gadrooned rims with double shells flanked by acanthus at intervals, the borders engraved twice with a coat-of-arms below a marquess's coronet, marked on undersides

The arms are those of Hay impaling Montagu for George Hay, 8th Marquess of Tweeddale (1787-1876), and his wife Lady Susan Montagu (1801-1870), daughter of William Montagu, 5th Duke of Manchester, whom he married in 1816.
