The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Each terracotta relief with overall surface wear, abrasions and tiny losses as to be expected with age. With scattered small and shallow chips to the edges of the terracotta. Some wear and rubbing to the high points. Please note that Christie's does not guarantee the condition of frames.
1. PORTRAIT OF CONSUL CHARLES-FRANCOIS LEBRUN, DUC DE PLAISANCE PROBABLY BY THE WORKSHOP OF JOSEPH CHINARD (1756-1813)

inscribed 'Chinard de l'institut... de Lyon', the reverse inscribed in pencil '9464' and bearing paper labels inscribed '8A' and 'Lebrun A'

Le Brun was one of the three members of the Consulate that supported Napoleon in the coup-d'état of 1799, which overthrew the Directory and named him Premier Consul, which was a crucial step in his progress to the throne.

Condition: The bust with typical wear and losses. A small shallow loss at his shoulder and to his hair. A filled hairline crack extending from the top button of his jacket, possibly repaired. The surface with later wash, posisbly covering restorations. The reverse with a later darker brown wash, possibly covering restorations.
2. PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG GENTLEMAN AFTER JOSEPH CHINARD (1756-1813)

Condition: The bust with typical wear and losses. With a few very small shallow losses. Overall with a later wash. The back covered in plaster, possibly covering restorations. With a very clean and attractive appearance.

Condition: The bust with typical wear and losses. With scattered tiny losses to the edges and to his shoulder. Some retouching to the background. In overall good condition.

Condition: The bust with typical wear and losses. A hairline crack issuing from a chip at the top center edge and running vertically through the bust’s head and curving to the left at his neck. With a small chip to the lace collar. A small area of fill near the edge.

Condition: The bust with typical wear and losses. A few scattered very fine hairline cracks, including but not limited to, her hair curls and her neck. The portrait set into the frame with additional plaster at the reverse.
6. ALABASTER RELIEF OF LA VIELLESSE AND LA JEUNESSE
FRENCH, LATE 18TH/19TH CENTURY
the reverse with paper labels inscribed '32' and '16A'

Condition: With minor surface wear, abrasions and tiny losses. With natural inclusions to the alabaster as to be expected and rubbing to the high points. The reverse with an approx. 1 in. x 3⁄4 in. repaired loss to the upper edge.
