A dynamic study of cyberpunk and dystopian imagery, A Bag of Oranges by Ontario-based artist Michah Dowbak (b. 1985), a.k.a. Mad Dog Jones, is a contemplation of multiple realities overlayed in a saturated environment. Dowbak’s deep appreciation for technology has led him to create striking and innovative artworks through the use of smart contract technology. The re-imagined cityscapes he creates portray an alternate path illustrating multiple realities existing at once, all dreams simultaneously. Mad Dog Jones brings a focused light and color study of a figure standing in a surreal city structure, the stacked buildings representing what could have existed over multiple timelines.
Dowbak’s work as Mad Dog Jones is primarily digital, though he has worked with many mediums and forms throughout his career. From music to sculpture, there is no single path his art follows. Raised by a father whose family business was stained glass windows, often for local churches, Dowbak’s art is highly focused on light and color. With true freedom to realize dream designs within the realm of digital art, Dowbak’s designs may appear complex, but are, at the core, intended to be seen as pleasant compositions that house a symphony of colors.
