The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas has a glue lining. The varnish is clear, with a few areas of yellowing in the sky. The figures remain largely unretouched, except for a few strokes of strengthening to the man's hand holding the scythe and the woman's foot. A repaired vertical tear, measuring approximately 32 inches at the far left is visible. There is a restored irregularly shaped tear and associated repairs running trough the top of the female figure's wing, above her head, and terminating in the clouds to the right of her bent knee. There are discolored retouches to the clouds throughout the composition, as seen in the catalogue image. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals the aforementioned restorations and some strengthening to the scythe. The painting can be hung in its present state.
