The mottled brown hardstone carved as a horse's head set with a diamond eye and teeth, the banded gold mounts with thumbpiece set with diamonds, rubies, and emeralds, marked on cover and flange with Dutch tax mark 1893-1953, the flange further marked twice with French import mark post 1893
