A PAIR OF ITALIAN GILTWOOD BUSTS
THE BUSTS 17TH CENTURY, THE BASES SOUTH GERMAN, 18TH/19TH CENTURY
Adolph Loewi (d. 1977) was a celebrated German-born art and antiques collector and dealer who established his firm, Adolph Loewi, Inc., in Venice in 1911 and opened a branch in New York in 1933. Forced to leave Italy, he settled first in New York, and then moved to Beverly Hills, where he became a leading dealer of furniture, sculpture, decorative arts, textiles and costumes. Loewi sold to major collectors and museums in the U.S. and Europe. The firm of Adolph Loewi, Inc. eventually divided, with the textile business becoming known as Loewi-Robertson, directed by his daughter and son-in-law.
