Ralph Rucci created this red silk ensemble for the opening of Rara Avis at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute. Referring to it as his favorite look he designed for Iris, he said "Empress couture for opening night-- Taroni Double Faced Satin Duchess -- in the most perfect red, color #845, Article 2569. Decades ago it was created for the great Valentino. She is wearing a tunic cut like a pagoda-- HUGE sleeves and 1/2 in. insets tied and falling like delicate tendrils.... It was just one of the many magical nights.' Ralph Rucci, Instagram, 2024.
Always mixing high and low, Iris Apfel wore this Chado coat to the Joanna Mastroianni Fall 2013 Fashion Show at Lincoln Center and an Upper West Side deli on the same night. The coat was first seen on the Chado Ralph Rucci Fall 2011 Ready-to-Wear runway.
