The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The panel appears to be made of two boards, the join is supported on the reverse by a piece of canvas. The panel has a very slight bow. The varnish has yellowed somewhat with age. Impastos in the dog's fur have been nicely maintained. There are some scuffs in the varnish in the background, but these do not detract from the overall composition. Minor restorations along the canvas join are visible in natural light. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a small area of restoration in the yellow fabric at lower left. The painting presents well overall and can be hung in its present state.
