Mrs. Apfel purchased these trousers for her husband Carl, as recounted during her appearance on the Martha Stewart Show in September 2010. She included a collection of Carl's clothing in her notable donation to the Peabody Essex Museum, which comprised selections from the Rara Avis exhibition, debuted by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and toured at the Peabody Essex Museum, as well as items from her personal clothing archive.
