ARAB REBELLION PRESS PHOTOGRAPHS

Large collection of photographs of the Arab Rebellion.

A group of 34 press photographs, dated 1936-1939, various sizes (2 largest 193 x 240 mm., most 130 x 107 mm. and smaller), most with typescript descriptions on versos, stamps and serial numbers of various British, American and French press agencies. (One photograph with pin holes and tiny tear to corner, another with two tiny marginal tears and chip, a few with minor marginal finger-soiling, a few dogeared.)

Numerous photographs showing a wide-range of subjects relating to the 1936-1939 Arab Rebellion. There is a large-format photograph of Palestine Police searching Arab suspects, with two others similar. British infantry are shown in Jerusalem rooftop positions, motorised transport, and a joint PPF and Army operation investigating roadside bombs near Nablus. There are some unusual images, including one of Jewish Supernumerary Police guarding a Jaffa orange grove, two of Jewish victims of an attack near Tiberias, and a large-format photograph of the burnt-out police station at Bethlehem. There are a large number of photographs relating to the delegations and important personalities at the St James’s Peace Conference of 1939, including MacMichael, Weizmann, Belisha, Allouba Pacha, MacDonald, and Lord Gort. There are four photographs of the Arab leaders of the rebellion, including the Grand Mufti, Fakhri Abdul Hadi and Fauzi Bey, as well as Fakhri Nashashibi.
