Rare collection of 6 Hebrew newspapers announcing the declaration of the independent state of Israel.Yom HaMedinah. Headline: 'Day of the State'. Friday 14 May 1948. Broadsheet (575 x 430 mm.), 2pp. Folded. (Light browning, faint marginal creasing at corners.) This is a composite newspaper put together by several of the then current Palestine/Israel newspapers commemorating the event. It contains the text of the Declaration of Independence and states that the regulations of the 1939 White Paper, with its restrictions on Jewish immigration and land transfers, are no longer valid.
Maariv. Headline: 'The Mandate is Dead - Our State Lives'. Friday 14 May 1948. Tabloid (430 x 290 mm.), 4pp. Folded, name printed in red. (Light browning, 45mm closed tear at top margin into headlines.) This evening paper carried the first full report on the declaration as read out By Ben-Gurion at 4pm earlier that day in the Tel Aviv Museum (known today as Independence Hall).
