EGYPTIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE – WORLD WAR ONE

Photographs of British manoeuvres in Egypt prior to the Palestine Campaign.

[Photograph album, Egypt, c. 1917.] 96 photographs (40 x 63 mm.) mounted on 12 leaves, plus 3 photographs in loosely inserted envelope, oblong small 4to (160 x 200 mm.) Original brown cloth, string tie (extremities lightly rubbed, lightly stained on upper cover).

A collection of photographs of British officers in Egypt during World War One, probably assembled by a member of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force commanded by Field Marshal Allenby. The photographs in this album appear to depict British manoeuvres in Egypt in preparation for an assault on the Turkish forces in Palestine. Subjects include shots of trench-building, military ships, numerous explosions in the desert, soldiers marching and in formation, 2 examples of a staged scene supposedly showing 3 officers killed in an explosion, as well as officers relaxing and playing sports.
160 x 200 x 20 mm.
