THE BRITISH ARMY IN MANDATORY PALESTINE.

Photograph album by an unidentified member of the Royal Army Service Corps.[Photograph album, Palestine, 1937-1938.] 240 photographs (majority approx. 60 x 90 mm.) showing Jerusalem, Hebron, Bethlehem, Rishon LeZion, Jaffa, Haifa and elsewhere, with manuscript annotations, 25 leaves, oblong large 4to (215 x 284 mm.)(last leaf loose, small tears to a few photographs, one photograph missing). A fascinating insight into the troubles facing the British army in Palestine during the Arab rebellion. The images include: the result of a land mine explosion on a British military vehicle, ‘Searching for suspects’, ‘Rebels’, ‘Sabotage of Palestine Railway’, ‘Derailed Goods Train’, as well as a number of other turned-over or exploded vehicles. Two images showing casualties are labelled ‘Stiffs’. 33 photographs show the compiler of the album at leisure in Palestine, many with his fellow servicemen. These include images of typical army life, living quarters, trips, and celebrations for the coronation of George VI.
